July 2021 Bar Exam: COVID-19 Jurisdiction Information

That’s why we are closely monitoring how COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is impacting the July 2021 bar exam, and have compiled jurisdiction specific resources to help keep you informed during these uncertain times.
For a complete list of jurisdictions that have made announcements concerning the July 2021 bar exam please see below.
According to the NCBE, it plans to:
- “[M]ake a full set of bar exam materials available for a remote administration in July 2021 to be held on the same dates as the in-person administration (July 27–28, 2021). Each jurisdiction will select which mode it will use for its administration.”
- “[E]quate the MBE, calculate scaled scores for the written components, and provide UBE and MBE score transfer services for both the in-person and the remote administrations.”
Each jurisdiction will determine when and how to offer its bar exam.

The following jurisdictions have made announcements about changes regarding the July 2021 bar exam. We will continue to update this page as we receive information from the jurisdictions.
On April 14, the Arizona Supreme Court directed the Committee on Examinations to administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
The Supreme Court of California issued an order on February 26 announcing that the July 2021 bar exam will be administered remotely.
The Colorado Supreme Court announced on March 10 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Connecticut Bar Examining Committee announced on February 11 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
The Delaware Board of Bar Examiners announced on March 15 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
The District of Columbia Committee on Admissions announced on February 10 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Florida Board of Bar Examiners announced on April 12 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Supreme Court of Georgia announced on March 24 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
Illinois
The Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Board of Admissions announced on March 1 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Indiana Board of Law Examiners announced on March 30 that the July 2021 exam will be conducted remotely.
The Iowa Supreme Court announced on March 11 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Kentucky Board of Bar Examiners announced on February 23 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
Louisiana
The Louisiana Supreme Court issued an order on April 8 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely. The one-day remote exam will be administered on July 26.
The State of Maine Judicial Branch issued an order on April 26 announcing that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
Maryland
The Court of Appeals of Maryland announced on February 26 that, on the recommendation of the Maryland State Board of Law Examiners, the July bar exam in Maryland will be administered remotely.
The Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners announced on February 17 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Michigan Supreme Court issued an order on April 21 directing that the July 2021 exam be administered remotely.
The Supreme Court of New Hampshire announced on March 3 its authorization for the Board of Bar Examiners to administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
New Jersey
The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners announced on March 11 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
The New York Board of Law Examiners announced on March 5 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
The North Carolina Board of Law Examiners announced on March 22 that it will administer the July 2021 exam remotely.
Ohio
The Supreme Court of Ohio announced on March 3 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners issued a statement on March 26 announcing its plan for an in-person administration of the July 2021 bar exam.
The Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners announced on February 12 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Supreme Court issued an order on April 9 announcing that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
The Supreme Court of Tennessee announced on February 16 that the July 2021 exam will be administered remotely.
Utah
Vermont
Per a March 8 order of the Vermont Supreme Court and a decision by the Board of Bar Examiners, Vermont will administer the July 2021 bar exam remotely.
The July 2021 exam in the Virgin Islands will be administered remotely.
On March 5, the Supreme Court of Washington issued an order authorizing the Washington State Bar Association to administer the July 2021 exam remotely. The Court also temporarily lowered the minimum passing score to 266.
The July 2021 exam in Wisconsin will be administered remotely.
